On Monday, October 30, more than 55 students following the Elective Subject Beer participated in the annual Mondriaan Beer & Food Event. In a “Taste Lecture”, led by well-known beer sommelier and author of several beer and food pairing books, Arvid Bergström, three selected beers, in combination with three dishes, carefully prepared by the team of students in the kitchen, were tasted and discussed.
The beer and food pairing consisted of:
– Paulaner Weizen (Germany) with beef stew with cloves, honey cake (ontbijtkoek) and banana chips.
– Karmeliet Tripel (Belgium) with young goat cheese praline, honey, hazelnut-walnut crumble and fresh-bitter salad.
– Quadruple 1818 Maallust (The Netherlands) with dark chocolate cake, Dulce de Leche and peanut butter cookie.
To top it off, in addition to the Quadruple 1818, a Leffe double Eisbocken made by the teachers of this elective course was tasted. This was a beautiful and special ending to a beautiful and special event at the IHMS.
