Deliciously enjoying being outside in the sunshine and listening to Golden Oldies disco music, our second-year students from the International Hotel & Management School made soup from leftover vegetables.
In total, the students “rescued” 150 kilos of tomatoes, onions, cauliflower, beans, fennel, peppers, parsnips and apples with this activity, from which 80 liters of soup were made. The delicious tasty soups were donated to the Hague Soup Bus, which were used to provide food for the homeless in The Hague. Last year, the Soup Bus was visited by 10,650 homeless people. The vegetables came from the Schiedam-based social organization Hotspot Hutspot, which collects leftover food products from wholesalers, such as Hanos, and ensures that the products can still be used for social causes or by people who are financially struggling.
